Monday 28th June- Sunday 4th July 2010 - Weekly Forecast
WEEKLY SUMMARY
It looks like staying quite settled initially as an area of high pressure will dominate across the UK bringing a mainly fine warm spell across nearly all parts and mean it is generally dry and sunny, despite some early mist and sea fog patches around coasts. After midweek fronts will likely push into western parts but make slow progress east as the low responsible moves north well to the west of Ireland. It will still probably be fairly sunny & stay dry and warm or very warm for most in central areas eastwards until the weekend , especially across East Anglia & the SE; the west becoming rather cloudier with some showery rain, perhaps heavy and thundery in places as it moves east. The weekend looks like starting perhaps mainly dry and fine in the far SE and still very warm or hot but thundery rain developing, heavy in places, cloudier elsewhere especially in the west & north west, with some showery rain at times, in a cooler W-SW'ly flow.
Monday 28th looks likely to see a ridge of high pressure across the southern UK; so after a few mist or low cloud patches inland and a quite muggy night in the SE, good sunny periods developing for most parts. Some cloud building though by day inland; enough to give a shower or two in the north west and north and possibly East Anglia too later; sea breezes developing around coasts too; temperatures responding fairly well in the sunshine and reaching 25-27C at best in the south and east but more like 20-24C in most other areas, & 14-17C around some northern coasts and across northern and Highland Scotland, the far north and near east coasts.
Tuesday 29th will probably see weakening high pressure still over the eastern UK, but an upper SW'ly flow; initially rather cloudy & misty for many in northern, SW, western & central parts though basically dry, apart from some mizzle in the coastal west/SW; clearer skies in southern & eastern parts overnight though some mist fog & low cloud may develop here too , though staying mild/muggy in the far SE and London, the mist will slowly clear with sunny periods developing. The west esp. W Scotland, NW England, N Ireland, W Wales and the SW generally seeing at least some sunny periods developing but some showers developing by the afternoon mainly over hills. Sea breezes keeping it cooler round coasts but temperatures generally well above average in most southern and eastern parts at 24-27C, locally 29C in urban London but to the north and west more like 19-22C generally and a cooler 14-16C in the far north & NE.
Wednesday 30th looks likely to see the high pressure still lie over the southern eastern UK and a light SW'ly flow elsewhere, though fresh later in the W of Scotland and across N Ireland. Clear spells inland in southern, central and eastern areas may allow some mist patches but soon clearing to give long sunny periods by day. Possibly a rather more cloudy night with some outbreaks of mainly light showery rain about in the west & northwest as weak fronts push in across the far west but generally brightening up by day with sunny periods developing. Some showers developing across western & central areas again though by day. Temperatures reaching around 24-27C in the sunniest southern & eastern parts and locally 28-29C in London but more generally 17-19C further north & east and a notably chillier 14-15C across NW'ern parts and some coasts and the cloudier W Isles, rather chilly for late June.
Thursday 1st July looks likely to see the ridge of high remain across most eastern parts . Patchily cloudy again overnight in some areas with mist, fog or low cloud forming, some showery rain remaining in the west too but a mild or muggy night everywhere. By day some decent sunny periods for most southern, central and eastern parts but perhaps staying cloudier on the whole in the far west including N Ireland and W Scotland and perhaps W Wales and Cornwall and Devon with outbreaks of showery rain about at times here in a fresh SW'ly wind touching near gale at times later on exposed headlands. Elsewhere, staying fairly bright or sunny. Some sea breezes developing in the east . By the afternoon showers may develop again in a few inland areas across England and may be rather heavy and slow moving. Maximum temperatures a very warm or hot 26-28C in central areas and the south and east generally with 30C in urban London locally but more like 21-23C elsewhere & on exposed cloudier coasts and the north only 15-17C.
Friday 2nd seems likely to see pressure fall away and a weak ridge may well remain in place across the eastern UK but a more SW'ly flow dominant further west overall as a low pressure area remains in the Atlantic well to the west of Ireland, moving away north. Quite breezy in the west though with strong SW'ly winds in exposed spots. A reasonably dry sunny start in the east and SE UK, after a muggy night with few mist patches & generally a dry and fairly sunny day here; further west though a band of showery rain pushing slowly east during the afternoon, possibly thundery with some heavy rain in places. An area of thundery showers may affect the far SE later too. Temperatures will be very warm or hot in the east & SE inland given decent sunshine at 25-27C, locally 29C in urban areas but more like 19-22C in the cloudier west generally and in N & E Scotland and the N Isles a cooler 14-15C with another muggy night to come in the far east and the SE.
Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th are probably likely to see a more unsettled spell for most as an area of thundery low pressure moves north-north east near or across the SE and east, though an upper SW'ly flow probably remaining across the west , so though generally cloudy for many in the far west on both Saturday & Sunday with perhaps some showery rain about, some decent sunny periods at times too in the more sheltered western areas. Further east across most of England and probably E Scotland too, bright with some good sunny periods but showers developing esp by the afternoon across central parts, perhaps on both days, locally heavy in places; the SE and east may still see more humid weather with sunny spells with some thundery rain or showers quite possible too. Temperatures over the weekend by day in the east and SE may well still be above average for early July at 24-28C on Saturday though a bit cooler on Sunday but more like 18-22C further west and around coasts but only 14-16C in the far north & west, which along with the cloud and breeze will make it feel quite chilly at times.
