Landlords' one-stop shop for advice on gas
Everything landlords need to know when it comes to meeting their responsibilities on domestic gas is now available in one place online.
The new website also shows landlords how to easily find a Gas Safe registered engineer.
The HSE is commited to reducing the burdens on landlords by making it easier for them to get the information they need to stay on the right side of the law and keep tenants safe.
The site has been developed with support from the National Landlords Association (NLA) and Gas Safe Register. It breaks down information into easy-to-use sections, including repair and maintenance, annual gass safety checks and record keeping, as well as answering frequently asked questions.
There are more than 6 million rental properties in the UK and an estimated 14 million people living in them.
In 2008/09, 15 people died from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning associated with domestic gas appliances, due mainly to gas appliances having been baddly fitted or poorly serviced.
By law, landlords must arrange for a Gas Safe registered engineer to check all gas appliances and flues within 12 months of being installed and then at least every 12 months. They are also required to complete any necessary maintenance and repairs of gass appliances, flues and pipework.
The HSE says feedback on the new website has been positive, with landlords welcoming the 'one-stop-shop' concept and the value of being able to get 'bite-sized pieces of information' in one place from a reliable source such as the HSE.
The HSE has also launched a free e-bulletin for gas safety. Subcribers will recieve a free monthly email providing up-to-date news and information on gas safety.
