The Contract Flooring Association was formed in 1974 by the amalgamation of three small flooring associations: The Floor Covering Contractors Association, whose members specialised primarily in smooth floor coverings: the Association of Flooring Contractors (hardwood flooring) and the Carpet Planners Association.

They also work closely with the Floor Industry Training Association who specialise in all aspects of training for flooring contractors.
